Breakwater Hotel Rooftop Pools

This project involved the partial demolition and renovation of the 5-story Hotel Breakwater South Beach, including the construction of new private roof decks and swim spas. Constructed in 1939, the building is located within the Ocean Drive/Collins Avenue Local Historic District and is an exceptional example of the Streamline Modern style of architecture with a nautical influence. Our primary challenge was to design pools with decked spaces that were innovative & contemporary yet respectful of the architectural style of the existing hotel. The design solution resulted in open roof decks at the northeast and southeast corners of the roof level, with new spas & stepped wooden decks.
