Surfside

Historic Residential Restoration

Our design team was hired to work with Carlos Aparicio of Aparicio + Associates to restore and renovate this 1939, single-family residence in Surfside, Florida. The south-facing residence, just steps from Biscayne Bay, is flooded with natural light throughout the year, which became the focus of our renovation scheme. Existing doors and windows of the home were replaced with weather-resistant apertures, and a fresh coat of paint gave the exterior facades a more contemporary look. The south-facing rooms on the far east and west side of the home were made accessible to the outside through the installation of french-glass doors and steps.

The design for this historic renovation also involved the re-paving of the driveway and the addition of pedestrian walkways around the perimeter of the home. Further, a concrete retaining wall with bold modern gates was added on the front of the property and adorned with shrubbery. The landscaping design on the front of the home created privacy, better situated the home in its natural environment, and made moving around the property a smoother experience.
