SKLARchitecture Feature in the DDC Journal

SKLARchitecture was recognized in the Design Develop Construct (DDC) Journal in its summer 2010 issue for working with the Miami Beach Housing Authority on multiple projects. Kanepeli Park, which is home to Elderly residents is a 21 unit, 4 story affordable building development features cantilevered balconies, shading eyebrows, and exposed architectural masonry evoking the original oolitic limestone that many local art deco buildings feature. The design also includes many communal outdoor areas for playing cards, dominos, or just reading to create a neighborly feel among residents, based upon the architect's childhood memories of his grandparents when they lived in the neighborhood. The other project was a historic restoration of a 1926 building and a 1935 building on the same lot creating 5 units. The two buildings form a courtyard to enjoy the architecture of the Art Deco buildings. Sklarchitecture designs senior housing as well as market rate multifamily housing, and has since provided architectural services for additional HACMB projects.
