Fixed-price coffee shop opens at former Starbucks space in Coral Gables

A new subway train-themed coffee shop named Fixpresso has opened in Coral Gables.

Fixpresso owners secured a lease for the 1,500-square-foot store, formerly a Starbucks at 200 Miracle Mile, in March 2018. The café opened for business Aug. 17.

The founders said they worked on the store's subway train concept and fixed-price menu for 2.5 years.

Food and beverages – from latte coffees, chocolate croissants, to turkey sandwiches – sell for a $2 fixed price. It also offers other hot and cold beverages, healthy choices, pastries and sweets.

Hours of operation are Mondays-Fridays, 7 a.m.-10 p.m.; and Saturdays-Sundays; 9 a.m.-9 p.m.

The Coral Gables site is the brand's flagship store. It includes its franchise offices, as it aims to begin franchising in 2019. Fixpresso has approved franchisees in 15 states, including Florida, Georgia, New York, Texas, New Jersey, North and South Carolina. Its stores will have the same subway train design and are typically 300 to 500 square feet with seating for about 10 people. The franchise fee is $20,000.

Founder Scott Deutsch said foot traffic has exceeded his expectations, with 250 people lining up starting at 3 a.m. on opening day. Customers have been coming back two times a day for Fixpresso's popular ice frozen coffee, he said.

"In 24 hours after the grand opening, we received 97 franchise requests," Deutsch said. "Specific locations of interest include Boca, Aventura, Miami Lakes, Fort Lauderdale, Davie, Weston and West Palm Beach.”
